Emotional availability is a hot commodity these days. I continually feel like a gumby doll, pulled and stretched to the point of no return to how things used to be, at least not without an arm or leg or my head for that matter, never quite looking the same. This frantic pace with so many demands often leaves me feeling like I should put out my no vacancy sign to dissuade unfamiliar tourists from even walking into the lobby and ringing the bell for service.
Regrettably, there have been too many times when a loved one, friend or a new opportunity has reached out and needed to make a reservation for any available room in my life and I have replied, only using words in extreme cases, “Oh, I’m sorry, I’m completely booked. You’ll have to come back another day.”
“Booked” is a reminder to make what matters most set my priorities. The abstract book appears to be open, but the sides are closed, not allowing access. My use of organic materials represents the lesson that was a natural byproduct of a self initiated and permitted awakening. The colors are derived solely from the gypsum, plaster and concrete over a screen, burlap and Mache form.
